The Details Behind Michael Jordan’s Prenuptial Agreement

Michael Jordan and his wife, Yvette Prieto, established a strict prenuptial agreement prior to their marriage in 2013. Influenced by his costly 2006 divorce from his first wife, Juanita Vanoy, the basketball legend put specific protective financial clauses in place to safeguard his multi-billion-dollar fortune.

Under the terms of their agreement, the payout structure is designed around the duration of the marriage:

  • First 10 Years: Prieto was set to receive $1 million for every year they remained married.
  • After 10 Years: Once the marriage crossed the 10-year mark, the amount increases to $5 million for every year they have been married, payable in the event of a separation or divorce.

Because the couple married in April 2013, they have surpassed the 10-year threshold, shifting the agreement into the higher tier of the payout structure should they ever part ways.
